BOZEMAN - Montana State University has been ranked a Top Veteran-Friendly School by U.S. Veterans Magazine and is the only Montana institution included in the magazine's 2024 list.
The Military Friendly Schools rankings are based on a university's academic policies, military student support, graduation and career outcomes, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, and financial aid and loan repayment for all students, as well as specifically for student veterans. MSU's past military friendly rankings include being the second ranked school in March of 2024, third in 2022, ninth in 2021, earning a gold ranking in 2020 and a silver ranking in 2016.
MSU was recognized for its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, creating a welcoming and supportive campus culture, providing equal opportunity, and demonstrating a strong dedication to promoting veteran inclusion in the student body, faculty and staff.
Todd Bucher, director of Veteran Services on campus, said one of the reasons MSU was recognized is the support offered through the Travis W. Atkins Veteran Support Center. He noted that they offer many other on-campus resources including free tutoring and free printing, as well as academic advising tailored for military students in an atmosphere that helps them succeed in and out of the classroom.
"The university fosters a welcoming campus culture that values the contributions of veteran students and offers networking opportunities and peer support," Bucher said. "We value the voice of our veteran students and take the time to listen and adjust to their needs."
U.S. Veterans Magazine lists its mission as opening educational opportunities for veterans, transitioning service members, service-disabled veterans, spouses and veteran business owners.
