Rest Area, & Highway Ramp/Lane Closures
Interstate 5 And State Routes 99 & 152

Merced County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Routes 99 (SR-99) & SR-152 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Area on southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 1, 2026.
    • ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists traveling southbound are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

State Route 99

  • Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way for landscaping work on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way for landscaping work on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at SR-59/MLK Way for landscaping work on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way for landscaping work on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

State Route 152

  • Double right lane closures on westbound SR-152 from the Santa Clara/Merced County Ling to San Luis Dam Service Road for pavement work beginning Thursday, April 2, through Friday, April 3, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
