Strengthening DV/GBV Data Analysis in the Maldives through R Programming Training

May 14, 2026

Family Protection Authority

A five-day capacity-building training on R programming was successfully conducted from 10 to 14 May 2026 in collaboration with UNDP Maldives to strengthen the analysis and use of Domestic Violence (DV) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) administrative data in the Maldives.

The training brought together staff from the Family Protection Authority (FPA) and key partner agencies, including the Ministry of Health, the Maldives Police Service, and the National Bureau of Statistics. The programme aimed to enhance participants' analytical capacity to generate meaningful statistical insights from DV/GBV datasets, supporting more evidence-based policymaking and response systems.

Participants were introduced to practical applications of R programming for data management, analysis, and visualization, with a focus on improving the quality, consistency, and usability of administrative data related to gender-based violence.

The initiative was made possible through generous contributions from the Governments of Denmark, Luxembourg, and the Republic of Korea via UNDP's Funding Windows. As UNDP's primary mechanism for flexible and pooled thematic funding, the Funding Windows enable timely and effective responses to emerging development challenges worldwide.

Through this training, UNDP and its partners continue to support strengthened data systems and evidence-driven approaches to addressing gender-based violence in the Maldives.
