Black Engineering Society Honored as Chapter of the Year, Again

UC Merced's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers was again honored as the Region VI Medium Chapter of the Year. It is the second consecutive year the organization received this recognition. The NSBE, established at UC Merced in 2007, provides support, guidance and advocacy for its members through their college journeys and beyond.

The UC Merced chapter was recognized at the national NSBE convention in Baltimore in March.

"Receiving the National Society of Black Engineers Regional Medium Chapter of the Year award two years in a row is incredibly meaningful to us as leaders" current president Simone Kirk and past president Meley Abay said in a statement. "This achievement reflects the continuity of leadership, vision and dedication within our chapter."

Region 6 includes more than 100 active chapters.

"Sustaining this level of excellence is no small feat," Kirk and Abay said. "It speaks to the commitment of our entire team to uplifting our members and making a lasting impact on our campus and community. This recognition motivates us to continue building on that legacy and striving for even greater impact."
