Walberg Announces Winners of 2026 Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) announced the winners of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan's 5th District. In recognition of our nation's Semiquincentennial, this year's theme was "America 250," and students were asked to reflect on our nation's history and what "America 250" means to them, from historic moments and uniquely American symbolism to shared values and ideals.

Wyatt Herb, a freshman at Lenawee Christian School, received first place for his entry, Bowing to the Cross. The watercolor piece features a soldier bowing to the cross in a forest, honoring Jesus and his fallen brothers-in-arms. Wyatt's art teacher at Lenawee Christian School is Bethany Posa, and his winning artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol Building.

Second place was awarded to Tyler White from Quincy High School. His entry, 1776, will be displayed in Congressman Walberg's Jackson office. Tyler's art teacher at Quincy High School is Natalie Talbot.

"Each year, I continue to be impressed by the incredible student artists in our district," said Rep. Walberg. "Congratulations to Wyatt and Tyler for sharing their creative abilities and showcasing the talents of students from across Southern Michigan. Their pieces demonstrate great care and attention to detail and reflect the values that make our country great as we celebrate our nation's 250th birthday this year."
