WASHINGTON, D.C.-Last night, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox News' Hannityalongside Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Minn.), and House Republicans to discuss how they will help deliver on Trump's agenda. Leader Scalise highlighted priorities such as eliminating wasteful spending, reducing burdensome regulations, unleashing American energy, and securing the border. Leader Scalise emphasized that there is no daylight between Republican leadership and President Trump, citing a productive meeting at the White House yesterday.
On Republicans ready to get to work as a unified government:
"Yeah, absolutely. And in fact, you can see President Trump's focus is so much sharper. He really recognizes, you know, he was spared by God to get to this moment. And we have unified government. We have an opportunity that you don't get often. We've got to make this work. And if you do, and we're talking about the same things, by the way. We're all talking about lowering energy costs, getting rules and regulations under control, securing America's border, making sure we don't have a tax increase so we can get our economy moving again and lower inflation. Those are all things we talked about during the campaign. President Trump talked about them. We talked about them. So there is no daylight between us and President Trump. You know, and if you go back to 2017, there was a little bit of a difference between President [Trump] and Congress. You don't see that today. We're in sync. We're moving together. We had a great meeting at the White House today with President Trump, and he's ready to go, and we're ready to go to deliver on that agenda."
On eliminating reckless waste:
"Think of all the slush funds, Sean. You know the Inflation Reduction Actthat created the inflation that we see because it was trillions of new spending. The EV mandate, people don't want to buy the cars. You get $7,500 that somebody who's driving a pickup truck has to give to somebody who wants to go buy an electric vehicle. You can't even find a charging station for the thing. There's billions of dollars sitting in a slush fund that we're going to go take back and give to the taxpayers of America, get rid of those things altogether. So it's not just about reducing spending. It's about getting rid of some of this waste that's out there in government. We're going to do that in the reconciliation bill."
