Booming on the Battlefield

The thunder of Civil War artillery will once again roll across Shiloh National Military Park during Flag Day weekend as the park presents special cannon firing demonstrations on June 13 and 14.The demonstrations will feature a six-pounder field piece, one of the most common artillery weapons used during the Battle of Shiloh.

Visitors will learn about Civil War artillery, including the weapons, projectiles and firing procedures used by artillery crews during the war. The cannon will be fired twice during each program.

Programs are free and open to the public. They will last about 20 minutes and take place across the street from the park's visitor center at the following times:

  • June 13 at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • June 14 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
