Published: Nov 05, 2026

Friday, November 6, 11 p.m. to Monday, November 9, 6 a.m.
All U.S. 101 Southbound Lanes Closed between 17th St. and Cesar Chavez

San Francisco County - The weekend of November 6-9, marks the final major closure of the U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) for repaving the road between 17th St. and Cesar Chavez. Completion of this weekend's work will conclude several months of repaving activities and associated weekend closures along the corridor.

This weekend's work will focus on the southbound lanes between 17th St. and Cesar Chavez which requires complete closure of southbound lanes of the freeway between 17th & Cesar Chavez St. This weekend closure begins Friday November 6, 11 p.m. until Monday, November 9, 6 a.m.

Throughout the weekend closure motorists will not have access to the following ramps:

  • 4th St. on ramp
  • 7th St. on ramp
  • 10th St. on ramp
  • WB 80-NB 101 Central Freeway Connector

This project is part of the broader U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) rehabilitation project which began in Fall of 2025. Additional work on segments of the Central and Bayshore viaducts will continue that will not produce similar traffic impacts as did the U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) work.

Important to remember:

  • All southbound 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) lanes between 17th St. and Cesar Chavez will be closed.
  • All northbound lanes will remain open for public travel.
  • Motorists should avoid driving southbound 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) due to anticipated delays.
  • Use SB I-280 as an alternate route.

Driver Community Benefits of Completed Work

  • Freeway corridor is now preserved with a 40-year life span.
  • Ride quality and driving comfort are improved.
  • Overall freeway safety is enhanced.
