7:00 a.m. update: Snow is now falling throughout Walker County and a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect. We are already receiving reports of slick roads. Travel is not recommended, and motorists should expect dangerous travel conditions. If you do not have to be out, please stay home and allow our Public Works crews time to plow the roads.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Walker County effective 7:00 a.m. Friday, January 10 to 7:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11. Snowfall is expected to begin around 5:00 a.m. in Walker County.
* WHAT - A mix of multiple winter precipitation types are expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to 3 inches and ice accumulations up to one third of an inch are possible.
* IMPACTS - Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting power outages. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS - Additional changes to ice and snow amounts are possible with future forecast updates.
* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS - If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
Our Public Works crews are on standby and will be ready to respond spreading a salt, sand and rock mixture on major thoroughfares.
