Seven artists have been selected to participate in Creative Greensboro's 2026 GROW Residency series. The Greensboro Residency for Original Works (GROW) offers participating artists free studio space and stipend to support the development of new work. The program also creates opportunities for the public to engage with artists and observe the creative process firsthand.
Residencies have been awarded to the following artists:
Karena "Kidd" Graves will create a series of tapestries representing local African-American folklore, using tufting and rug-making techniques to explore the role of the past in shaping Greensboro's future (January 20, 2026, through March 30).
Andy Eversole's documentary project "Banjo Earth: North Carolina" will celebrate North Carolina's music, culture, and food, while inviting participation through music workshops and live performances (April 7, 2026, through May 26).
Tamra Hunt will engage audiences in a multisensory art experience, guiding participants to translate music and sound into visual artwork through listening, touch, and creative exploration in inclusive community workshops (June 2-29, 2026).
Subbora Jackson will blend art and chess to create colorful, one-of-a-kind chessboards inviting connection through game nights, art workshops, and a collaborative, community-designed chessboard (July 7, 2026, through August 17).
Victoria Mercado-Lues will explore her identity as a Mexican-American woman through a variety of mediums including paper-mache, crochet and fabric arts, painting, and dance (August 25, 2026, through October 5).
Larry Q. Draughn, Jr. will develop a documentary podcast series, "Conversations in Rhythm," celebrating Greensboro jazz masters Tal Farlow and Danny Richmond through archival recordings, interviews, jazz workshops, and jam sessions. (October 13, 2026, through November 23).
Gabrielle Edwards will create large-scale charcoal drawings depicting imagined worlds, inviting the community to engage with layered, story-rich environments while empowering them to tell their own visual stories. (December 1, 2026, through January 19, 2027).
