Deceased pedestrian identified from fatal crash on March 10, 2026

On March 10, 2026, at approximately 5:38 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding a traffic crash involving a pedestrian and a pickup truck on Wahsatch Avenue at Costilla Street. Officers responded and learned the pedestrian was westbound on foot crossing on the north side of the intersection and was struck by the pickup truck, which was making a left turn onto Wahsatch Avenue. Despite medical intervention, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

Based on the circumstances, the CSPD Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Currently, no impairment is suspected.

On March 11, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased pedestrian and identified him as 77-year-old Anton Gerhard.

This was the 9th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there was one traffic fatality. In the last 365 days, there have been 59 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
