Lt. Governor David Wasinger Launches New Recognition Program for Missouri Scouts

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger today announced the creation of the Missouri Lt. Governor's Patch, a new recognition program developed in partnership with Scouting America to honor Scouts who exemplify leadership, service, and citizenship at the state level.

The program encourages young Missourians to learn about their government, serve their communities, and deepen their understanding of civic responsibility.

"Scouting teaches responsibility, teamwork, and service - the same values that built Missouri," said Lt. Governor Wasinger. "This patch recognizes young Missourians who take those lessons to heart by serving others and learning how our state works."

"Duty to God and Country are foundational principles of Scouting. As we strive to build the next generation of values-based leaders, this program helps scouts learn and engage in participatory citizenship," said Joe Sadewasser Scout Executive and CEO of the Greater St. Louis Area Council. "We're grateful to Lt. Governor Wasinger for creating this program, Governor Kehoe for his leadership, and to all public servants working to make our communities better."

To earn the Lt. Governor's Patch, Scouts must complete several civic and service-focused requirements, including:

  • Take an official tour of the Missouri State Capitol and climbing all 284 steps to the top,
  • Complete 20 hours of volunteer work with a state or local government agency,
  • Discuss the 10th Amendment and the concept of federalism with their Scout leader,
  • Write a letter to their state senator and representative about an issue they care about, and
  • Talk with their Scout leader about a moment in Missouri's history or a Missourian in the Hall of Famous Missourians who inspires them.

Each Scout who completes the program will receive an official Lt. Governor's Patch and a certificate signed by Lt. Governor Wasinger.

The program is open to all Scouts BSA members in Missouri-based councils, including the Pony Express, Great Rivers, Heart of America, Ozark Trails, and Greater St. Louis Area councils.

Wasinger, who serves on the Greater St. Louis Area Scouting Board, is deeply connected to the Scouting community - both of his sons are Eagle Scouts, and he credits the program with shaping their character and leadership.

"As a father of two Eagle Scouts, I've seen firsthand how Scouting changes lives," Wasinger said. "It builds confidence, character, and commitment to something bigger than yourself - the same kind of leadership Missouri needs for the future."
