Status and timeline of the Commission's decision on the Annual Action Plan for Tanzania for 2025 following Parliament's objection resolution

Question for written answer E-004878/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Martin Günther (The Left)

On 27 November 2025, Parliament adopted a resolution objecting to the Commission's draft decision on financing the EU's Annual Action Plan (AAP) for Tanzania for 2025[1]. This objection followed grave concerns about post-election violence, thousands of deaths, arbitrary detentions including that of opposition leader Tundu Lissu, and systematic human rights violations in Tanzania following the October 2025 elections.

Parliament's resolution noted that the Commission's AAP did not adequately reflect Tanzania's democratic and human rights deficiencies. It calls on the Commission to halt direct support to the Tanzanian authorities.

The Commission has reportedly suspended the draft decision pending a definitive verdict.

Can the Commission provide:

  • 1.The current status of its review of the draft decision regarding the AAP for Tanzania for 2025?
  • 2.A detailed timeline for when a final decision will be made?
  • 3.The specific changes or conditions that are being considered following Parliament's objection?
