Fourth day of Minister Tajani at the High-Level Week of UNGA80. Agenda: Gaza, Iran, Libya, the Horn of Africa, and India

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, continues his participation in the High-Level Week of the 80^th United Nations General Assembly with a series of bilateral meetings scheduled with the Foreign Ministers of India, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Somalia, and Senegal. Minister Tajani will also meet with the U.S. Special Envoy for Africa and the Middle East, Massad Boulos.

In the afternoon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will take part in a restricted-format meeting on Gaza, attended by Ministers from a number of European, Middle Eastern and Asian countries. Minister Tajani will reiterate Italy's position, including its readiness to contribute-once a ceasefire is achieved-to a stabilisation mission under international auspices, within the framework of an Arab-led initiative and under UN mandate.

With just three days to go before the possible reactivation of international sanctions against Iran for its nuclear programme (so-called "snapback", currently set for midnight on 28 September), Minister Tajani will express to Minister Araghchi the hope for a swift resumption of direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington, reaffirming Italy's willingness to host such talks. The agreement reached on 9 September in Cairo between Iran and the IAEA represents an encouraging signal and a step in the right direction.

In his meeting with Special Envoy Boulos, Minister Tajani will also discuss Libya, following the meeting convened by Boulos on the sidelines of UNGA, which reaffirmed the United States' continued commitment to stabilising Tripoli. Minister Tajani will reiterate Italy's support for the UN roadmap for the country's stabilisation and its strong engagement in supporting a political solution and the fight against human trafficking.

In the meeting with Minister Jaishankar, the discussion will focus on the Italy-India strategic partnership and the opportunity to explore the vast potential of cooperation under the IMEC Corridor.

Regarding Somalia, Minister Tajani will reaffirm Italy's steadfast commitment to the Horn of Africa, to its prosperity and stabilisation, including through a new EUR 1 million contribution announced today to the African Union's stabilisation mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
