Northern Maine Community College is introducing three new academic programs beginning this fall, developed in direct response to feedback from regional industry partners and designed to prepare students for in-demand careers.
The new offerings include a Certified Dietary Manager certificate, a Tech Prep certificate, and an Administrative Professional associate in applied science. Each program was created to address specific workforce needs identified by employers across northern Maine and to expand accessible, career-focused education opportunities for students.
"These programs are a direct reflection of what we are hearing from employers across our region," said Angela R. Buck, vice president and dean of academic and student affairs. "Our industry partners have been clear about the skills they need, and we have worked closely with them to develop programs that prepare students with practical, job-ready skills that translate directly into the workforce."
The Certified Dietary Manager program prepares students for leadership roles in healthcare and food service environments, supporting facilities such as hospitals, long-term care centers, and assisted living organizations.
The Tech Prep pathway offers a flexible, hands-on approach for students to explore skilled trades while earning college credit, making it an ideal option for both high school students participating in early college and individuals seeking to explore career options before committing to a specific trade.
The Administrative Professional associate degree was developed in collaboration with industry partners to equip students with in-demand office and business skills needed across a wide range of professional settings.
"All three programs are designed to provide clear, accessible pathways for students to get started and move forward," said Johna Lovely, director of counseling at NMCC. "Whether students are entering college for the first time or returning to build new skills, we are here to help them take that next step."
All three programs will begin in fall 2026, with applications now open.
Eligible students may qualify for zero tuition through the Maine Free College Scholarship, which helps expand access to higher education for recent high school graduates and others who meet program requirements.
