MenuDr. Emily Webster knows the digital marketing landscape moves quickly.
It is why she works so hard to make sure her students are prepared not just to keep up with an ever-changing industry, but to do so with skill.
Dr. Webster is an assistant professor of marketing at the Rinker College of Business. She joined the department in 2023 after moving to the West Palm Beach area that summer. She holds a Ph.D. and a master's in marketing from Georgia State University, as well as an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama. Her academic research centers on social media strategy, digital consumer identities, consumer well-being, and the ways emerging technologies, including generative AI, are shaping modern consumer behavior.
In the classroom, she teaches principles of marketing, digital marketing, and marketing management in the MBA program. She also launched two new courses in the Rinker marketing curriculum: marketing strategy and data-driven marketing.
Using Experiential Learning to Take Students Beyond the Textbook
Dr. Webster said she was drawn to PBA because of its commitment to service and giving back to the community. What keeps her here is the opportunity to bring together research, teaching, and community impact.
"I want my students to understand how to drive ethical marketing decision-making," she explained. "The digital landscape changes rapidly, so beyond textbook theories, I hope they leave with a deep understanding of digital ethics and a passion for using their expertise to positively impact consumer well-being and their local communities."
That passion comes to life through experiential learning. Dr. Webster regularly connects students with South Florida companies and nonprofits, giving them opportunities to apply classroom concepts to real needs.
Her students have completed collaborative pro bono projects with organizations including the Palm Beach Symphony, American Shark Conservancy, North Palm Beach Rowing Club, and Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. Through those projects, students create pitches, digital strategies, and marketing recommendations, then present their work directly to boards and senior leaders.
The result is more than a class assignment. Students gain workplace skills, build portfolio pieces, and learn what it means to use marketing in service to others.
Dr. Webster recently wrote about that approach in her article, "Integrating Generative AI with Experiential Learning in the Digital Marketing Classroom," published in the "Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice."
A Season of Outstanding Achievements
This year also brought personal and professional milestones for Dr. Webster. She earned the 2026 PBA Service Award for her community collaborations and was named a 2026 honoree for South Florida Business & Wealth's Prestigious Women in the "Mentoring Champions" division.
Outstanding as these accomplishments are, Dr. Webster said none of these wins matter to her. She chooses to measure her success not by her achievements, but by her students'.
Dr. Webster shared that one of her most memorable student success stories came through PBA's American Marketing Association chapter.
Led by President Frida Alsterhem, the 2023-2024 chapter earned national recognition at the 2024 National Marketing Competition in New Orleans. PBA received a Top 5 Small Chapter Award out of more than 200 competing universities. Two students, Savanna Seldes and Christiane Anton, advanced to the finals of the perfect pitch competition, competing against more than 600 students nationwide. Anton, a 2024 graduate, earned second place overall.
The chapter also placed in the top 30 in the case competition, receiving an honorable mention.
"It was a true underdog story that always brings a smile to my face," Dr. Webster said.
Dr. Webster currently serves as the faculty adviser for PBA's Beta Gamma Sigma chapter. They recently tripled their membership, achieved Highest Honors status, and secured a scholarship for one PBA student. PBA's American Marketing Association students also earned an Outstanding Chapter Award, and their MLB marketing strategy proposal was named a finalist for the 2026 AMA South Florida Best Campaign of the Year.
"My most enduring legacy will always be the dedicated mentorship of the next generation of marketing leaders," Dr. Webster said. "I want to help students reach their full potential, so they graduate not just as skilled marketers, but as ethical leaders who elevate the organizations they serve."
At the Rinker College of Business, Dr. Webster said, students are prepared to "navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape with confidence, blending cutting-edge strategies with a strong ethical foundation to lead the future of business."
