CARY, NC - With Halloween tomorrow, Cary is reminding residents to keep safety in mind as families head out for trick-or-treating and other festivities on Oct. 31. Whether you're walking through neighborhoods, handing out candy, or driving around town, a little extra caution can help make the evening safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Families are encouraged to plan their trick-or-treating routes ahead of time, travel in groups, and make sure children are accompanied by a responsible adult. Costumes should fit properly and allow children to see clearly, while flashlights, glow sticks, and reflective materials can help make trick-or-treaters more visible after dark.
Pedestrian safety is especially important on Halloween, when neighborhoods may see increased foot traffic. Trick-or-treaters should use sidewalks and designated crosswalks whenever possible, avoid crossing between parked vehicles, and look both ways before entering the street.
Drivers can also help keep Halloween safe by slowing down in residential areas, avoiding distractions, and watching carefully for children who may unexpectedly enter the roadway. Extra patience and attention can make a difference as families move between homes.
Residents welcoming trick-or-treaters are encouraged to keep walkways well-lit and clear of obstacles. Parents and caregivers should also check children's candy before allowing them to enjoy their treats.
Cary does not designate official trick-or-treating hours, so residents are encouraged to check with their neighborhoods about any planned activities or recommended times.
