University of Delaware community reports new presentations, honors

Alexander Selimov, the Elias Ahuja Chair and Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, delivered a dual contribution to the Mountain Interstate Foreign Language Conference held at Tennessee State University. He led a creative writing workshop focused on poetry on Nov. 8, and presented research examining the challenges of teaching literary translation on Nov 9. His presentation featured comparative case studies analyzing human-crafted versus AI-generated translations of poetry, offering insights into the evolving landscape of literary translation pedagogy. The workshop and presentation highlighted both traditional poetic craftsmanship and emerging questions about the role of artificial intelligence in translating the subtle artistry of verse.
