The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Announces Leadership Updates to its Board of Directors and Scientific Medical Advisory Board for FY2027

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - (July 1, 2026) - The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer, proudly announces new appointments to its Fiscal Year 2027 Board of Directors and Scientific and Medical Advisory Board (SMAB), effective July 1, 2026. Peter Bernstein of Alexander Wolf & Son will be joining the Board of Directors and Scott Paulson, MD, Director, Texas Oncology Clinical Research, and Brian M. Wolpin, MD, MPH, Robert T. & Judith B. Hale Chair in Pancreatic Cancer, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, will join the SMAB.

Their leadership comes at a pivotal moment in the fight against pancreatic cancer. After decades of research, we are witnessing scientific breakthroughs that have the potential to redefine what is possible for people facing pancreatic cancer. Building on this momentum, PanCAN launched its most ambitious fundraising effort to date, All Together We Can, a five-year, $250 million campaign designed to accelerate breakthrough research, expand patient services, and strengthen the pancreatic cancer ecosystem-bringing us closer to the survival rates patients deserve.

"We are proud to welcome these new members to PanCAN. They are joining us at an incredibly exciting time as we are finally at a turning point and poised to reap the benefits of decades of investment, advocacy and research into this challenging disease," said Julie Fleshman, JD, MBA, president and CEO of PanCAN. "Their expertise and commitment are critical as we enter this new era in treatments and strengthen our ability to change the trajectory of pancreatic cancer."

The PanCAN Board of Directors consists of 16 members, which includes two officers and 14 directors. All directors are elected for a three-year term and members can serve for up to three terms.

Joining the Board of Directors is Peter Bernstein, fourth-generation principal at Alexander Wolf & Son, where he oversees estimating and sales and has led more than $100 million in construction projects across multiple sectors. He holds an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University. Bernstein is active in nonprofit leadership through organizations including JCC Manhattan, Park Avenue Synagogue, Belev Echad, and UJA committees, and previously served as Co-Chair of the New Leadership Division of Israel Bonds. Following the loss of his mother to pancreatic cancer in 2020, he has been deeply involved in advocacy and fundraising for PanCAN, co-captaining Team Alexander Wolf & Son for PurpleStride New York City and supporting a PanCAN research grant focused on precision medicine and early detection.

In addition to Board updates, PanCAN announces two appointments to its SMAB, its expert body of researchers and clinicians guiding scientific strategy and research priorities.

Scott Paulson, MD, is a gastrointestinal medical oncologist at Texas Oncology-Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center and Medical Director for Clinical Research at Texas Oncology. His work focuses on pancreatic, hepatobiliary, and neuroendocrine cancers, with an emphasis on expanding access to clinical trials and improving treatment options for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies. He has been active in pancreatic cancer research for more than a decade and is committed to increasing access to innovative therapies in community-based care settings.

Brian Wolpin, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Robert T. and Judith B. Hale Chair in Pancreatic Cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He serves as Director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Center and the Hale Family Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber, where his work focuses on advancing early detection, biomarker development, and precision medicine approaches for pancreatic cancer. Dr. Wolpin served as the principal investigator for Revolution Medicines' groundbreaking Phase 3 RASolute 302 clinical trial evaluating daraxonrasib in patients with metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) who had been previously treated.
