New Play Area Coming to Shute Park

A new nature-themed play area is coming to Shute Park, adding space where children can connect with nature and enjoy outdoor play!

The play area will be located near an existing picnic shelter in an underutilized grass area of the park. The project will transform the space into an accessible and welcoming play area, while complementing the park's existing amenities and play structures.

Project improvements will include:

  • A small nature-based play area designed to encourage exploration and outdoor play
  • An accessible pathway connecting the play area to the surrounding park
  • A 4-foot fence to create a safe and welcoming play space
  • Seating for caregivers
  • Landscaping and plants

A Community-Informed Project

These improvements were identified through extensive community outreach in 2023, when community members shared ideas and priorities for new park features.

Metro's Nature in Neighborhoods Community Choice Grant provides $165,000 for the project, with an additional $82,000 in System Development Charge (SDC) funds covering the remaining cost. The total project cost is $247,000.

Construction will begin in September with expected completion by the end of this year.
