Results from the September 24th DUI/Driver License Checkpoint

On September 24, 2026, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI and driver license checkpoint on Shattuck Ave at Parker St.

947 drivers were contacted at the checkpoint. 14 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or while their driver license was suspended, 3 drivers were cited for other violations discovered by officers.

2 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, and 1 driver was arrested for outstanding felony warrants.

An additional 28 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are conducted to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
