Southeast Missouri State University's (SEMO) Annual Student Research Conference (SRC) returns April 15 and 16 in the University Center Ballroom. The SRC is the premier platform for SEMO students to present their groundbreaking research across all disciplines. Every year, dozens of students share their undergraduate and graduate research in the University's largest research showcase, celebrating innovation and discovery.
These projects push the boundaries of classroom learning. Topics span across disciplines, including the benefits of music for children, the influence of fiction on Indigenous communities, alternative therapies for OCD and advancements in 3D imaging for films, gaming and virtual reality. From studying light pollution's effects on ecosystems to analyzing crystal structures, these projects highlight how SEMO students are tackling real-world challenges through innovative research.
For student presenters, the SRC is more than just an academic exercise, it's a pathway to professional growth.
Tell Me More about Student Research
"The Student Research Conference has provided me with a valuable opportunity to learn from both my peers and faculty," said Madison Varner, English student and SRC student representative. "The keynotes and workshops have deepened my knowledge, enriching my education and equipping me with insights that I will carry with me into my career."
The conference also gives students experience with public speaking, presentation skills, exercising professionalism in a conference-style setting, and receiving feedback from faculty experts, all of which prepare them for graduate school and their careers. For those looking to take their research to the next level, an optional competition gives students a chance to receive awards in five categories: undergraduate oral presentation and poster session, graduate oral presentation and poster session and HN499 symposium.
The SRC culminates each academic year in April to provide SEMO students with an opportunity to showcase their knowledge, passion, discovery and innovation.
