Barry County - Drivers should look for alternate routes when the Missouri Route 248 bridge over Flat Creek southeast of Jenkins CLOSES the week of March 2 for a replacement project, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews will remove the current single-lane truss bridge and replace it with a new two-lane structure that is 70 feet longer, eight (8) feet wider, seven (7) feet higher.
In addition to the new bridge, the contractor will add permanent pavement markings, install guardrail and object markers at either end of the bridge.
The bridge will remain closed for up to 120 days.
Flat Creek will NOT be navigable under Route 248 due to a temporary crossing installed across the river to allow contractor crews to work on the bridge project.
The current structure was built in 1930 and is experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 1,440 vehicles cross the bridge daily.
