Andrews FCU Supports Young Women’s Career Development Through Firefighting Training Program

Andrews Federal Credit Union proudly served as the Premier Sponsor of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department's Camp Trailblazers, a two-day leadership and career exploration experience.

Camp Trailblazers introduces young women ages 15 through 18 to careers in firefighting, emergency medical services, and public safety, providing hands-on experiences that showcase the rewarding opportunities available in the fire service. Campers participated in realistic Fire/EMS scenarios, learned life-saving emergency response techniques, developed leadership and communication skills, and connected with accomplished women serving throughout the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department.

Camp Trailblazers is part of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department's long-term recruitment strategy to build a more diverse workforce. Approximately 12.5 percent of the department's current firefighters identify as female. The program aims to increase awareness of careers in fire and emergency medical services while encouraging more young women to consider these vital professions.

According to credit union leadership, Camp Trailblazers was a strong fit for Andrews Federal because of the fire department's focus on empowering local students, expanding educational opportunities, and investing in career development within our local community.

"At Andrews Federal, investing in our community means supporting programs that open doors for the next generation," said Damita Robinson, Chief Operating Officer of Andrews Federal Credit Union." We are honored to partner with the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department to help young women discover meaningful careers in public service while building foundational skills for their future careers
