Allegheny General Hospital, the Network's Flagship Facility, Earns Highest Marks for Cardiovascular Care and Cardiac Surgery Program
PITTSBURGH - Four Allegheny Health Network (AHN) hospitals have received Healthgrades' 2024 and 2025 clinical quality and patient experience awards, marking an exciting milestone for the Pittsburgh-based health system which serves patients throughout the western Pennsylvania region.
Among the top award winners, AHN Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), the network's academic medical center and flagship facility, stood out for its leading cardiovascular care and cardiac surgery program - it was recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery (2024 and 2025) and one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care (2025).
AGH was also rated as the top cardiac surgery hospital in Western Pennsylvania.
"Today's recognition from Healthgrades signifies our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality cardiac care, and it assures our patients that they are receiving treatment based on the most advanced techniques and evidence-based practices, delivered by a team of highly skilled and experienced professionals," said Stephen Bailey, MD, cardiac surgeon and Chair of AHN Cardiovascular Institute. "Ultimately, this recognition speaks to exceptional patient outcomes and experiences within a leading-edge cardiac surgery program at Allegheny General."
Additional AHN facilities recognized by Healthgrades included:
Each year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions, using Medicare data as well as other data sources. Healthgrades evaluates these facilities based solely on patient outcomes - risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications. The Specialty Excellence Awards recognize hospitals that deliver superior patient outcomes.
The organization was initially created to help consumers better understand, compare, and evaluate hospital performance by providing objective, comprehensive information about hospital quality across U.S. healthcare facilities.
"These evaluations help consumers and patients identify top-performing hospitals across the country that achieve clinical excellence and high patient safety scores," said Bethany Casagranda, DO, MBA, chief medical officer at AHN. "We couldn't be prouder of the clinical teams across this network recognized over the last year - these awards are a testament to their steadfast dedication to innovative medicine, compassionate care delivery and the highest standards of quality."
