Sen. Rick Scott Reintroduces Bills to Make Washington Work for Florida Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senator Rick Scott introduced several bills as part of his Make Washington Work plan that will end the tired, dysfunctional status quo in Washington and make sure the U.S. government is working in the best interests of American families. This includes the No Budget, No Pay Act; the Let's Get to Work Act; a bill repealing automatic pay raises for Members of Congress; and a constitutional amendment to provide the president line-item veto power, establish term limits for Members of Congress, and require a supermajority to raise taxes or fees on the American people.

Senator Rick Scott said, "I've made a promise to Florida families that I'll do everything I can to make Washington work for them - that starts with reforming the tired, dysfunctional ways of Washington and making sure our government is always working in Americans' best interests. Right now, Washington's dysfunction is at an all-time high after four years of the Biden-Harris administration, and it's time to make a change. • Constitutional Amendments to provide the President line-item veto power, establish term limits for Members of Congress, and require a supermajority to raise taxes or fees on the American people. This joint resolution proposes constitutional amendments that bring much-needed reform to the federal government, prioritizing return on investment for American tax dollars and ensuring Washington is working in the best interests of American families.
• Repealing automatic pay raises for Members of Congress.
• No Budget, No Pay Act to prohibit Members of Congress from being paid in a fiscal year until both chambers approve the budget resolution and pass all regular appropriations bills for that fiscal year. Funding the government is a basic job of Congress, and this bill holds members accountable for meeting appropriations deadlines or forgo their taxpayer-funded salaries until the job is done. This legislation is cosponsored by Jacky Rosen, Katie Britt, Ted Budd, Marsha Blackburn, Steve Daines, Ted Cruz and Eric Schmitt.
• The Let's Get to Work Actto encourage every individual who can work to do so, which will help our nation's economy thrive. This bill will expand work requirements under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and HUD housing programs, including applying SNAP work requirements to all able-bodied adults under 60 and those with children over 6.
