Strong sense of unity and commitment to multilateralism and the rules-based international system at the first meeting of the EU Heads of Mission in Rome after summer. At times of unprecedented global volatility, the Heads of Missions discussed the common EU positions for the work at FAO, WFP and IFAD in the interest of global food security and sustainable agrifood systems. The UN80 process is closely followed and all want it well connected with the review of FAO and its synergies with the other Rome-based agencies. 10 years after the Paris Agreement was signed and a few weeks ahead of COP30 in Belém/Brazil, the EU's common commitment was reiterated to address climate change as one of the root causes of hunger and food insecurity in the world. Solidarity was also expressed with the colleagues from Poland, Romania and Estonia after the unacceptable violations of their airspace by Russia. It was underlined how our position and with our work in Rome, we stand with Ukraine. Ambassador Martin Selmayr expressed his gratitude to the Danish Council Presidency, the former Polish Council Presidency and the incoming Cypriot, Irish and Lithuanian Council Presidencies for the excellent cooperation in representing the EU efficiently in Rome.
