Firefighters stop flames spreading to neighbouring businesses - Trangie

Published: 16 Nov 2024 02:28pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have saved a row of businesses from a fire that's destroyed an abandoned café this morning at Trangie, in the state's west.

The blaze broke out in Dandaloo Street, just after 9am.

The FRNSW crew from Trangie was quickly on the scene and was joined by FRNSW's Assistant Commissioner for Regional Operations, Cheryl Steer, who was travelling through the town at the time.

The crew battled to control the blaze for 90 minutes, providing water protection on both sides of the derelict business, preventing the flames from engulfing the row of shops.

Assistant Commissioner Steer, as Incident Commander, liaised with other emergency services and directed additional fire crews from Dubbo, Narromine, Gulgong and Delroy to the scene.

The abandoned café was destroyed by the intense blaze.

No-one was injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

Assistant Commissioner Steer has praised the efforts of the firefighters, particularly the local crew, which immediately recognised the risk and acted quickly to stop the spread of flames to neighbouring businesses.
