Hayward police do not participate in the enforcement of federal immigration laws

In light of some inaccurate information shared on a Hayward-based social media group, we want to remind community members that the City of Hayward employees do not ask about, collect or keep information about the immigration status of anyone we serve, and our police department does not participate in federal immigration law enforcement.

These policies reflect our commitment to equal treatment and service to all community members and the importance of building trust to keep Hayward neighborhoods safe.

These policies also reflect best practices in local policing and are based on a recognition that Hayward is a demographically diverse community with a population that is 42 percent foreign-born and 18 percent non-citizens of the United States, according to 2023 American Community data.
