SHREVEPORT - After a successful first four lectures, LSU Shreveport will continue to present its "Talks on Tap" Series with three summer events. "Talks on Tap" is a monthly lecture series held at Great Raft Brewing held on the third Tuesday of each month. LSUS professors hold engaging 45-minute talks on a variety of fascinating subjects, followed by a brief Q&A.

This series invites the community to enjoy a unique opportunity to learn from LSUS faculty outside the classroom in a casual and relaxed setting.

Upcoming lecture topics include:

  • "Beyond Charity: The Economic Impact of Louisiana's Nonprofits": Dr. Heather Carpenter from the Department of Nonprofit Administration and Research presents Louisiana's nonprofit sector in a new light, illuminating the incredible work and economic gain contributed to our state by local nonprofit organizations. (May 20th at 6 p.m.)
  • "The Science of the Strong: Elevating Youth Sports Performance": Aaron Adams from the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science explains his revolutionary work as the manager of LSUS's Human Performance Lab and how adolescent athletes are positively influenced by science-based strength training. (June 17th at 6 p.m.)
  • "Bass Biology 101": Dr. Amanda Lewis from the Department of Biological Sciences and the LSUS Bass Fishing Team dive into fish biology, the science behind fishing limits, and bass in our Louisiana waterways. (July 15th at 6 p.m.)

The subsequent Q&As allow attendees to extend their knowledge by delving further into the intriguing topics. The series is designed to make high-quality education more accessible to the general public.

"LSUS is committed to a culture of learning that reaches beyond the traditional classroom," said Dr. Helen Wise, Associate Provost at LSUS, "The 'Talks on Tap' series offers our community a chance to engage in lively, insightful discussions on research that resonates with real-world interests and challenges. We want to create a space where knowledge is accessible, relevant, and, most importantly, enjoyable. By connecting our faculty's expertise with the community's interests, we aim to spark conversations that inspire, inform, and contribute to our collective understanding while meeting new folks and connecting with our alumni."

Admission is free and open to the public, with food and drink available for purchase. Join us at Great Raft Brewing for captivating speeches, community engagement, and delicious cuisine. For details on upcoming events, visit LSUS Calendar.
