WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA-08), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today issued the following statement after the Trump administration dropped its appeal of a court decision blocking billions of dollars in U.S. Department of Transportation infrastructure grants because of political differences:
"Blocking hundreds of billions of dollars for roads and bridges over political differences puts California drivers at risk, is petty, and, importantly, illegal. Trump was recently quoted he's not burdened by the law, but rather by his own morals. Well, today, Trump was finally burdened by the law," said Rep. Garamendi. "I applaud Attorney General Bonta for holding Trump accountable and fighting for California drivers, and I will continue to work every day on behalf of all Californians until Trump stops breaking the law."
In September, Congressman Garamendi questionedTrump Administration Officials over the legality of the Trump administration's leveraging of billions in federal dollars for political purposes.
Congressman Garamendi is also a member of the House Democratic Litigation Task Force, which is working with legal partners to hold the Trump administration accountable in court. Since assuming office, Trump has repeatedly undermined the rule of law-threatening the American way of life while fueling rising costs, chaos, and corruption.
In response, the Task Force was established to develop coordinated legislative, oversight, and legal strategies to defend the Constitution and protect the rights of the American people. To date, the Task Force has filed dozens of amicus briefs, launched numerous privileged resolutions of inquiry, conducted more than 10 shadow hearings and briefings nationwide, issued hundreds of investigative demands, and supported numerous lawsuits brought by third parties.
