Recycling Education and Research Foundation Announces 2025 Veterans Stipend Recipient

(November 11- Washington, DC) - The Recycling Education and Research Foundation (RERF), a nonprofit closely associated with the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) today announced Army veteran James Boyer as the recipient of its 2025 Veterans Stipend. The $2,500 stipend provides financial support to veterans enrolled in a formal training or licensing program and can be used to cover costs that are often not permitted through traditional government or financial assistance programs.

"The Recycling Education and Research Foundation is proud to recognize James Boyer as the 2025 Veterans Stipend recipient," said Christine Gneiding, RERF Chair and Trader with Intrametco. "James' continued pursuit of education and service to others exemplify the mission of our Foundation. We wish him continued success."

Following high school, Boyer enlisted in the Army where he rose through the ranks beginning as Infantry Soldier in the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, progressing to Infantry Fire Team Leader; 82nd Airborne Division, Special Forces Medical Sergeant Candidate, and ending his military career as Special Forces Medical Sergeant; 10th Special Forces Group before being honorably discharged in April of 2022.

"Thank you so much to the Recycling Education and Research Foundation for this honor," said James Boyer. "It means a lot to be recognized for my service and the work I'm doing now. This stipend is a big help while I'm attending physician assistant school. It gives me peace of mind to focus on my studies, so I can be prepared to treat patients. I'm grateful to the people and organizations that provide these kinds of opportunities to veterans like me."

Boyer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Colorado Denver. He is currently enrolled in the Physician Assistant Graduate program at Duke University. Boyers' career goal is to excel as a physician assistant, with a continued focus on providing healthcare to unhoused populations.

Boyer credits his military career with molding him into the person he is today, specifically his work ethic, leadership skills, and growth mindset.

Since 2002, RERF has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to more than 1,200 students and has overseen much-needed research into the science and technology involved with recycling. The Veterans Stipend was created in 2013.
