Jennifer Amur Is Joining the National Desk

A great editor knows which questions to ask, large and small. Jennifer Amur is always asking the right questions.

What can we reveal? Why does it matter? What's the best way to tell this story?

Over the course of her career as an editor at The Washington Post, first on its international team and most recently as national editor there, Jenn has shaped memorable, important coverage. Again and again, Jenn has shown the rare ability to marshal resources from across a big newsroom in service of creative ideas. When floods devastated the Texas Hill Country last July, Jenn and her team at The Post produced excellent coverage in a variety of formats, including a smart investigation with a graphical look at how the water rose .

Reporters and editors who have worked with Jenn know her to be a sure-handed editor who is implacable and decisive in the biggest news moments. Now, in her new role on National, Jenn will lead teams of reporters covering immigration and the South - high-interest and high-intensity coverage areas where Jenn's keen news judgment and relentless work ethic will serve her reporters - and readers - very well.

Before joining The Post in 2014, Jenn worked at The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and has lived all over the country. Covering the South is a return to her Alabama roots. But Jenn's first full-time job in journalism was as an editor in Istanbul.

She starts Monday, and will work out of our D.C. office with our growing National team there. Please join me in welcoming her.
