ORANGE, Conn. - April 20, 2026 - United Illuminating (UI), a subsidiary of Avangrid, Inc. celebrated the dedicated men and women who work tirelessly to keep Connecticut communities powered and connected during National Lineworker Appreciation Week April 14 to April 17. Lineworkers play a critical role in ensuring safe and rapid power restoration when it matters most.
"We are deeply grateful for our lineworkers and their unwavering commitment to keeping our communities powered and safe," said Chuck Eves, Vice President of Electric Operations at UI. "Their work demands expertise and focus. Whether its modernizing energy infrastructure or responding swiftly after severe weather, our crews meet the moment, often during the most challenging conditions."
In February 2026, UI lineworkers responded to the most significant blizzard to impact Connecticut since 2013, bringing more than 20 inches of snow and winds exceeding 35 miles per hour. During this event, UI crews worked around the clock through heavy snow and strong winds to restore power to more than 6,000 customers.
UI lineworkers also supported fellow crews beyond the company's service areas. Following severe storms in western Pennsylvania, crews traveled to assist in power restoration for hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses.
National Lineworker Appreciation Week is an opportunity to recognize the professionalism, focus, and expertise that defines the UI workforce. Through severe weather, long hours, and late-night calls, UI crews consistently demonstrate their dedication to keeping communities connected and safe.
While National Lineworker Appreciation Week highlights the critical role lineworkers play in keeping the lights on, UI also recognizes the many other employees who work side by side with them to deliver safe and reliable service every day. This includes utility workers, meter services, substation and logistics teams, call center representatives, and support staff whose expertise and coordination are essential before, during, and after major events. From preparing equipment and managing system operations to answering customer calls and restoring service, these teams work together around the clock to support our communities when they need us most.
