City highlights lithium-ion battery hazards for Fire Prevention Week

Media are invited to join Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) and City of Edmonton Waste Services to kick off Fire Prevention Week 2026.

Spokespersons will highlight the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) theme, "Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower." EFRS representatives will outline recent local fire trends involving lithium-ion batteries and their impacts on lives, property and community safety. Experts will also demonstrate safe lithium-ion battery handling, safe charging habits and proper disposal protocols.

The following representatives will be available to speak and answer questions:
  • Graeme McAlister, Deputy Chief, Community Safety and Risk
  • Justin Lallemand, Assistant Deputy Chief, Fire Prevention and Investigations
  • Adam Groshko, Acting General Supervisor, Waste Services
