Nearly $48,000 Awarded to Schuylkill County Fire Departments

HARRISBURG - Nearly $48,000 in state funding was awarded to fire departments in Schuylkill County, according to Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Reps. Tim Twardzik (R-123), Jamie Barton (R-124), JoAnne Stehr (R-107) and Dane Watro (R-116).

These dollars can be used for the purchase of critical wildfire suppression equipment, protective gear, communications tools and training.

Departments awarded funding include:

  • Community Fire Company of New Ringgold - $7,909
  • East End Fire Company of Tamaqua - $3,325
  • Good Will Fire Company No. 4 of Pottsville - $3,000
  • Hegins Valley Fire Rescue - $2,529
  • Mahantongo Valley Fire Company - $15,000
  • Muir Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 - $1,000
  • West End Fire and Rescue of Mahanoy City - $15,000

This funding was awarded through a cost-share grant program which provides up to $15,000 to rural fire companies serving municipalities with less than 10,000 residents. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
