SCO Secretary-General Meets with Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
On July 15, 2026, a meeting was held in Islamabad between Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev and Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi.
The interlocutors discussed current issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the SCO framework, emphasizing that the current year marks the 25th anniversary of the Organisation.
The Secretary-General noted the designation of the city of Lahore as the SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2026-2027. The sides discussed the organization of joint cultural and tourism events, as well as plans to hold a Tourism and Culture Forum in Hainan and a special exhibition in Jingdezhen.

During the conversation, the parties also addressed the issues concerning Pakistan's participation in specialized exhibitions and forums aimed at developing cultural exchange and strengthening mutual understanding among the peoples of the SCO member states.
Nurlan Yermekbayev and Aurangzeb Khan Khichi reaffirmed their mutual interest in the further development of cultural and humanitarian ties within the Organisation.
The Secretary-General mentioned the positive experience of holding thematic events concurrently with Meetings of Heads of Ministries and Agencies of the SCO member states.
