Solar Coca-Cola Recognized with Solenis Sustainability Award for Advancing Water Efficiency and Operational Performance

October 13, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WILMINGTON, Del. (USA) - Solenis, a leading global provider of water and hygiene solutions, today announced that Solar Coca-Cola's Suape facility in Brazil has been recognized with the Solenis Sustainability Award for its data-driven approach to improving water efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and increasing production availability through cleaning-in-place (CIP) optimization.

"By re-engineering the CIP process and validating a simplified, single-stage cleaning approach, the Solar Coca-Cola team achieved meaningful reductions in water, energy, and chemical use while improving operational availability," said Sabino de Almeida Soares, Solenis regional sales manager, Food and Beverage Brazil. "This project demonstrates how targeted hygiene and process improvements can deliver measurable sustainability benefits and operational value."

Working with Solenis, Solar Coca-Cola implemented a single-stage CIP solution for its water treatment plant that delivered the following sustainability benefits:

  • Water conservation: Reduced CIP water use by 23,544 cubic meters annually, lowering freshwater withdrawal and wastewater generation
  • Energy efficiency: Achieved annual savings of 11,988 kWh of electricity and 2,809 cubic meters of natural gas by operating the CIP process at cold temperature
  • Greenhouse gas reduction: Avoided approximately 5.94 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year
  • Chemical reduction: Decreased caustic soda usage and reduced downstream wastewater treatment chemical demand
  • Operational efficiency: Reduced CIP cycle time by 43%, increasing equipment availability by 321 hours per year and enabling additional production capacity

"Our objective was to improve operational flexibility while reducing our environmental footprint," said Cesar Roberto Souza da Silva, Industrial Manager at Solar Coca-Cola. "Partnering with Solenis enabled us to validate a cleaning solution that strengthened hygiene performance, conserved resources, and supported sustainable growth at our facility."

Established in 2020, the Solenis Sustainability Awards recognize specific and verifiable customer projects that have, over a period of 12 months, delivered measurable results against at least one of five sustainability indicators: reduced water use, reduced energy consumption, decreased greenhouse gas emissions, optimized raw material utilization, or reduced waste.
