Iran: RSF condemns the regime's relentless persecution of Narges Mohammadi

On 8 February, the Iranian judiciary sentenced the journalist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to prison yet again, this time for seven and a half years in another sham trial. The press freedom defender was accused of "assembly and collusion against national security" and "propaganda activites" Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is calling for these charges to be dropped and for Narges Mohammadi to be released immediately.

"The Iranian regime's relentless persecution of Narges Mohammadi is unacceptable. This latest conviction is illustrative of the mass crackdown on journalists since the latest wave of protests began in December 2025. According to RSF information, at least nine other journalists have been arrested since January. We call for the immediate release of Narges Mohammadi and all the other unjustly detained journalists in Iran.
