ALBANY MAN SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON FOR RAPE
Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 29-year-old Albany man who broke into an apartment and forced a woman to perform oral sex on him in exchange for her safety is heading to state prison.
The Honorable Andra Ackerman sentenced Lamont Evans to serve 15 years in state prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to Rape in the First Degree. He will be required to register with the NYS Sex Offender Registry upon his release.
On June 15 just before 8:30 p.m., Evans was spotted on video surveillance walking into a convenience store on Lark Street with a bottle of wine and asking the clerk for a cup. He poured wine into the cup and walked to Lancaster Street, where he sat outside an apartment.
He proceeded to break into the first-floor window and walked into a bedroom, where he confronted a sleeping female, who was a stranger to him, and demanded she perform oral sex. Evans then exited the apartment and was arrested by Albany Police a short time after.
During the investigation, he was identified by video footage and DNA left on the cup inside the apartment.
The case was prosecuted by the Special Victims Unit.
