Leader Schumer Introduces Legislation To Require Senate To Initiate Legal Action Against Trump Over Epstein Files

New York, N.Y. - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) introduced a resolution directing the Senate to initiate legal actions against the Trump administration for illegally refusing to release the complete Epstein files and heavily redacting the files that are released. Leader Schumer will force consideration of this resolution in January when the Senate reconvenes.

In response to the Trump administration's blatant disregard of the law by releasing heavily redacted documents and refusing to release the complete Epstein files, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer introduced a resolution which would direct the Senate to initiate legal actions to hold the Department of Justice accountable. The Epstein Files Transparency Act passed unanimously in the Senate and with only one vote against in the House. The directive and intent of the law was clear - the Trump administration must provide transparency to the American people.

"The law Congress passed is crystal clear: release the Epstein files in full so Americans can see the truth," said Leader Schumer. "Instead, the Trump Department of Justice dumped redactions and withheld the evidence- that breaks the law. Today, I am introducing a resolution to force the Senate to take legal action and compel this administration to comply."

In total, just over 4000 records were released, a far cry from the several hundred thousand documents the administration claimed they would provide on Friday and a fraction of the total evidence. Moreover, about 20% of these documents featured heavy or complete redactions.

"Instead of transparency, the Trump administration released a tiny fraction of the files and blacked out massive portions of what little they provided," continued Schumer. "This is a blatant cover-up. Pam Bondi and Todd Blanche are shielding Donald Trump from accountability, and the Senate has a duty to act."

On Friday, December 19th - the legally mandated deadline to release the full files - the Trump administration openly admitted that they had no intention to comply with the law. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a Fox News interview that they would not meet the deadline.

"Republicans should again show that same support for upholding the bipartisan law we passed and demand the Trump administration release all the Epstein files," Schumer concluded.
