DEBATE RECAP: Austin Theriault on Abortion Rights: “Let’s get back to the issues that matter.”

During tonight's first debate in Maine's 2nd Congressional District, Austin Theriault blatantly dismissed protecting Maine women's abortion rights: "Let's get back to the issues that matter."

Don't believe us? See for yourself.

Theriault has repeatedly made clear that women can't trust him to protect their reproductive rights by:

  • Pledging to restrict abortion access statewide.

  • Voting against protecting reproductive freedoms for women in complex medical situations.

  • Voting against bills to fund family planning services and to keep access to abortion care during health care providers' mergers or acquisitions.

  • Supporting Republican Party bosses in Washington - including Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee Richard Hudson (R - Theriault's Home Base), House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota and House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York - who are leading the GOP's crusade against women's abortion rights.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
"Tonight's debate further proved that Austin Theriault not only can't be trusted to protect women's reproductive rights - he doesn't even think the issue is important. Maine women will reject Theriault's blatant disregard for their freedoms in November."
