Country Artist Dasha To Undergo Surgery, Says Years Of 'Craziness' 'Just Hit Me Like A Truck'

Dasha is about to take a hiatus.

The viral "Austin" singer, 26, revealed to Billboard in a report on Tuesday (September 29) that she's taking time off to undergo surgery on her vocal cords next month. The road to recovery will require weeks of complete vocal rest, plus vocal rehab to properly talk and sing again. Dasha told the publication that the problems stemmed "from the past two-and-a-half years of craziness [on tour] that just hit me like a truck. You don't really get a lot of sleep. You talk, talk, talk and you party and you sing. It just caught up with me."

Dasha also told Billboard that fellow country star Jordan Davis had the same surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, so "knowing someone that went exactly through the same thing as me calms me down so much."

Dasha confirmed she'll be ready to attend the Country Music Association's 60th CMA Awards on November 18; however, she won't be able to perform or "be out partying and stuff" after the show. After that, she's looking ahead to her third studio album arriving in arly 2027, which she considers to be "a tentpole for my career. I think it's going to be an album that people really remember me by," she told Billboard, adding later, "I do well under pressure, and I just have a lot of high expectations for myself with this album, so the surgery is gonna allow me to be at the top of my game."

Dasha's latest single to release is "82 Chevy," which she wrote with her brother, Bardo Novotny, plus Johnny Clawson and Kyle Sturrock. The San Luis Obispo, California-born artist told iHeartCountry in 2024 that she wrote her first song at 8 years old. Her father acted as her first manager, and as a child, Dasha landed gigs playing at local coffee shops. She said of her musical style earlier this year, when she released her version of "She's So Gone" on an EP featuring country twists on Disney music, "I feel like a lot of my songs and my message as an artist comes from empowerment, and empowering women to be as bada** as they want to be in this world."
