Starting college can feel scary at first. For Yaeli Estrada, though, Concordia University Texas is starting to feel like home. She feels comfortable on campus and really likes how peaceful it is. The environment doesn't feel stressful. It feels calm and welcoming.
One of her favorite things about CTX is the nature around campus. The trees and open spaces make it feel relaxing and different from other schools. Being outside helps her feel calm and stay focused.
The Tornado Trailblazers Program at Concordia University Texas is a one-year experience designed to help new students build community and succeed in college. Students in the program meet regularly with staff and peers to set academic and personal goals, learn practical life skills, and support one another throughout their first year. The program focuses on connection, encouragement, and helping students confidently navigate their transition to college.
Yaeli is part of the Trailblazers Program, and she says it has helped her a lot. Through the program, she met new people, learned new things, and felt more connected to campus. It made the transition to college easier and less overwhelming.
Getting involved helped her build confidence and feel like she belongs.
This year, Yaeli has a few clear goals:
She says she feels more focused on her future now and wants to be more intentional with her time.
One of the biggest lessons she has learned is not to procrastinate. She used to wait until the last minute to do assignments, but she realized that hurt her performance. Now, she's working on studying a little every day instead of cramming.
She has also learned that reading consistently helps her stay on track and feel more prepared in class.
When Yaeli feels overwhelmed, she reminds herself of her goals and why she chose to start college. Thinking about how far she has come helps her keep going.
Spending time outside helps her relax. She enjoys going to parks for fresh air, and swimming helps her clear her mind and reset.
Her advice to other students is simple: don't be shy. Talk to people and ask for help when you need it. She believes getting involved really makes a difference in the college experience.
Yaeli is excited to keep growing in school and in life. She's proud of the progress she has made and is looking forward to what's next at Concordia University Texas.
