Together with the rapidly improving technology, digitalization is changing the nature of competitive issues. The spread of data-based business models, the increasing importance of multi-sided platforms and the integration of AI technologies into decision-making processes introduce a new generation of competition problems that go beyond traditional price- and output-focused assessments. In this framework, it is increasingly being debated to what extent existing intervention tools are capable of addressing the dynamics in question. The rapid scaling and hard-to-reverse effects, observed especially in digital markets, raise questions as to the adequacy of ex-post intervention mechanisms in terms of timing and impact. Conversely, how to define the scope and boundaries of ex-ante regulations, which have the potential to prevent such risks, also constitutes an important area of discussion. Many countries, particularly the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Germany, have developed different approaches in this field, and the resulting landscape has indicated the need to consider various policy tools together rather than relying on a uniform model.
In light of these assessments, a workshop will be held on June 9, 2026 within the context of the "Competition Policies in the Digital Age" study conducted by the Turkish Competition Authority, in order to discuss the recently emerging regulatory trends and next-generation competition issues, collect the views of sector representatives on these trends and contribute to the policy-making processes.
The Workshop will have a particular focus on the following subjects:
The Workshop aims to bring together academics and representatives from public institutions, the private sector, and civil society, to enable the examination of current competition issues from different perspectives and contribute to the forthcoming "Competition Policies in the Digital Age Report ".
The Workshop will be conducted in Turkish, and the details of the program as well as the speakers will be announced separately.
