Rockets Make Big Impact for Community at Saturday's Annual BIG Event

More than 500 UToledo students representing dozens of student organizations participated in last Saturday's BIG Event, the largest single-day student-run service project, which highlights the University's commitment to service and community engagement.

From left, Duncan McLean, a junior studying fine arts; Payton Saputl, a sophomore studying chemical engineering; Evan Ruhe, a freshman studying civil engineering; and Josh Fugate, a freshman studying civil engineering, work on a plant bed at Manos Community Garden in downtown Toledo.

Over its two-decade-plus history, the BIG Event has served as a campuswide effort to give back to the Toledo community through hands-on volunteer work. The initiative brings together students to support local organizations and strengthen community connections.

As part of the BIG Event's partnership with Keep Lucas County Beautiful, members of Pi Kappa Alpha picked up litter in the surrounding Toledo communities.
