BOZEMAN - Montana State University expects to confer 2,465 degrees during its 142nd spring commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
MSU will award degrees to 1,888 undergraduate students and 401 graduate students. It will also present 176 associate degrees and certificates to Gallatin College MSU students, according to the Office of the Registrar.
Students from the College of Agriculture, Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering and Gallatin College MSU will graduate at 10 a.m. The procession will begin at 9:40 a.m. During the ceremony, Morton H. Meyerson, a former CEO and investor in the technology field who helped establish MSU's Hilleman Scholars Program, will receive an honorary doctorate.
Students from the College of Arts and Architecture, College of Education, Health and Human Development, College of Letters and Science and Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing will attend afternoon commencement at 2:30 p.m., with the procession beginning at 2:10 p.m. During the ceremony, Wendy Jean Red Star, an Apsáalooke artist, MacArthur fellow and MSU alumna, will receive an honorary doctorate.
To quicken entry into the event, the university requests, but does not require, that graduates and guests leave bags and belongings in their vehicles. Cellphones and keys may remain in pockets when passing through metal detectors.
Both ceremonies will be livestreamed. A link to the live video will be available on the commencement page at montana.edu/commencement on the day of the events.
