2.6-Acre Parcel of Land Located to the North of JFK Airport Between Nassau Expressway and Rockaway Boulevard
65 EV Charging Stations and Public Parking Spaces at Launch; Site Designed to Grow with Demand and Support Electric Trucks
NEW YORK, NY-New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Wildflower, a New York City-based developer specializing in sustainable urban infrastructure, today announced the sale of land to Wildflower to build the largest publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging station in New York City. The development will feature an initial 65 EV-ready charging stations, including at least 12 rapid charging stations, available 24/7. Designed for scalability, the station will expand over time to meet growing demand and accommodate a variety of vehicles, including electric trucks. Wildflower is expected to break ground in 2026.
In addition to the parking station, Wildflower has made commitments to Queens Borough President Donovan Richards including a minority and/or women-owned business enterprise (M/WBE) outreach goal of 30% as well as organizing a local hiring event in collaboration with the Borough President's Office and Council member Brooks-Power's Office.
"NYCEDC is thrilled to celebrate this important milestone for Wildflower as this investment will transform this site and result in a number of positive changes for southeast Queens including electric vehicle charging stations as well as much-needed parking space," said NYCEDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball. "These types of projects are critical in meeting New York City's ambitious sustainability goals and when completed, Wildflower's parking station will serve as a great resource for New Yorkers who are making a green transition towards electric vehicles."
"Wildflower is building the largest EV fast-charging station in New York City; a vote for clean energy, the green economy, and a forward-looking investment in the city's future," said Wildflower Founder Adam Gordon. "In a market without large public parking attached to grocery stores and drug stores, private sector charging infrastructure becomes vital, creating jobs and a path to the electric vehicle transition where it didn't exist."
Wildflower's electric vehicle charging development will serve as a critical component of New York City's Green Economy Action Plan announced in 2024 that aims to activate electric vehicle charging sites and enable low-carbon alternatives in the transportation sector. This first-of-its-kind plan announced by Mayor Eric Adams, NYCEDC, and the Mayor's Office of Talent and Workforce Development (NYCTalent) lays out a series of commitments and strategies that will bolster economic growth, create thousands of jobs, encourage public-private partnerships, and train and position New Yorkers, particularly those from environmentally disadvantaged communities, to benefit from the nearly 400,000 projected green collar jobs in New York City by 2040. The electric vehicle charging station will also build on Mayor Adams' Rebuild, Renew, Reinvent: A Blueprint for New York City's Economic Recovery and PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done.
"This project represents a meaningful investment in Southeast Queens and a clear step toward a cleaner, more sustainable transportation future for our city," said New York City Council Majority Whip Selvena N. Brooks-Powers. "It is critical that we invest in green infrastructure for communities in Southeast Queens and across the city. I appreciate NYCEDC's partnership on this project, and I will continue working closely with EDC and the developer to ensure local hiring, strong M/WBE participation, and community needs remain front and center as this project moves forward."
"This project is exactly the kind of forward-thinking investment Southeast Queens deserves," said New York State Senator James Sanders Jr. "Building the largest publicly accessible EV charging station in New York City near JFK Airport positions our community at the center of the green economy while creating real opportunities for local workers and M/WBEs. As we confront climate change and modernize our infrastructure, developments like this show that sustainability, economic growth, and community inclusion can and must go hand in hand."
"I'm glad to see NYC EDC and Wildflower close on a deal to build the largest public electric vehicle charging station in New York City right here in Queens," said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. "This will build on Queens' commitment to clean energy and will support our residents who are looking to move to electric vehicles. We must continue to push for green infrastructure in Queens and beyond, and that's what we're doing with this new deal."
"Queens Community Board 13 (QCB13) welcomes this next stage in the building of the largest Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station in New York City," said Queens Community Board 13 District Manager Mark McMillan. "As we see more electric vehicles on the road, locating this station adjacent to JFK Airport will provide a convenient opportunity for those dropping off or picking up passengers or cargo to charge their vehicles. This is an overall plus for our environment, and the kind of development needed as we rapidly move into the future."
