The City of Broken Arrow is enhancing Solid Waste and Recycling Department services beginning Labor Day, Sept. 7.
Solid Waste and Recycling crews will now follow regular collection routes and provide service to customers on most holidays that fall on Monday through Thursday. Exceptions include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, when service is suspended due to the closure of disposal and processing sites.
"Our top priority is providing first-class curbside collection services for our customers," said Director of Solid Waste and Recycling Jerry Schuber. "This schedule change will minimize confusion, disruptions in customers' weekly routines, and requests for missed service that often coincide with a holiday slide. It also maintains a consistent schedule for our customers and employees, while prioritizing our commitment to delivering on the high standards our customers expect from us."
Under the previous schedule, service days slid to the following day up to 11 times per year due to city-observed holidays. When a holiday fell on a Monday, all customers were inconvenienced due to the service day slide that week. In the future, the only times all customers will experience a service disruption is when New Year's and Christmas fall on a Monday.
Under the new schedule in 2027, only Thursday customers will be affected. With Thanksgiving falling on Thursday each year, service will move to Friday for that week. The change is intended to improve customer service, establish a stable schedule, and provide a more positive customer experience.
