We, at the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA), extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives in the tragic crash of the Elevador da Glória funicular in Lisbon yesterday. Our thoughts are also with the many people who were injured, and with all those suffering as a result of this devastating event.

On this day of national mourning, we stand in solidarity with all those affected. This tragedy has touched not only Portugal, but also the wider community, as both Portuguese citizens and foreign nationals are among the victims.

We pay tribute to the emergency services, medical teams and local authorities who responded with courage and dedication in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Their continued efforts to provide care, comfort and critical support to survivors and families are deeply commendable.

As we lower our flag to half-mast, we join the people of Lisbon, of Portugal, and beyond, in honouring the memory of those who have died. We hope that their families and loved ones may find strength in the compassion and solidarity that surrounds them today.
